The Great Turning
Sunday, December 30 at 11 am in the Church Sanctuary
service conducted by Rev. Fred Rabidoux
The world and we all are in a period of
history that is undergoing profound changes
in the environment, economic relationships,
and spirituality. Changing to keep pace with
the world is a challenge we are all
participating in. We need each other's
support if we are to see the changes we hope for.
This service will focus on the changes in the
spiritual aspects of The Great Turning and
our parts in it.
Worship Associate Millie Phillips will
present her credo on this topic, and Betty
Skwarek, Acting Director of Religious
Education, will lead the responsive reading.
Trumpeter Tom Dambly will be featured and
accompanied on piano by David Jones.
Religious Education Classes Celebrate 2007's End
from
Betty Skwarek
Acting Director of
Religious Education
Religious Education classes will celebrate the
of 2007 with a party Sunday. The class schedule
starting at 11 will be the same as normal but
during the activity time near the end of the
morning children and youth will have a
year-end celebration. You're invited to bring
snacks to
share.
Because of the holiday, art and
youth choir will not meet at 10, and
childcare will begin at 10:45 rather
than 9:45.
Many thanks to Carlowe Connelly who
has been taking pictures of Religious
Education activities. There will be black and
white copies of the pictures for you to look
at outside the chapel on Sunday morning.
Please let Betty know if you would like a
color copy.
We would like to publish the photographs in
the Flame and on the Society's
website, but before we do that we want to
make sure that parents approve. Permission
statements will be near the pictures.
More information about our programs for
children and youth is available in a Google
group. It is a moderated group so please
call or email Betty
Skwarek, or phone her at 776-4580 to be
added as a participant.
New students are welcome throughout the year,
and parents are invited to phone Acting
Director of Religious Education Betty Skwarek
at 776-4580 for more information.
Joy Spread at Christmastime
Holiday Crowd, Holiday Information
The Christmas Eve candlelight service drew a
standing-room-only crowd of over 500 people
in a celebration of bells, pageantry,
music, and readings. The trumpeting, the
carols, the
candles, the choirs, the angels, and the wise
men made for a joyous beginning to the
holiday.
The Church and Center will be closed to the
public today (December 27) through Saturday
with light staffing and no phone coverage.
The office will also be closed Monday and
Tuesday, but the Center will open for a
Community
Music Center concert on New Year's Eve
(8:30 pm) and New Year's Day (4 pm). Tickets
for this event
(Beethoven's 9th Symphony) may be purchased
at the door for $25.
Year End Contributions dated December 31 or
earlier will be credited to the 2007 calendar
year if they are received by January 3. If
you would like to make a special gift to the
Society, we are particularly encouraging
donations for a new commercial refrigerator.
Our 40-year-old appliance is failing, and we
hope to replace it before the Winter Shelter
begins on February 4.
Thanks to photographers Sonnie Willis
for the picture of Rev. Rabidoux at the
top of this newsletter, of the new members
below, and of the candle lighters
illustrating this story.
