| I hope to bring the skills of facilitation and
communication to the search process. I am particularly
interested in making sure that different views are
impartially explored before decisions are made.
When I
ran meetings of the Congregation and of the Board during
the two years I served as Moderator, I believe that people were respected,
informed, and able to vote intelligently. I
believe that the smart use of procedures can help us
talk with each other and identify what we have in common
as we search for a new minister(s).
Recently I have been the volunteer creator and editor of the weekly
electronic newsletter, The Flame.
This effort illustrates my focus on communication. The Flame
also shows my attempt at creative,
out-side-the-box thinking and my interest in reaching a
diverse and younger community.
Since joining the Society in 1982, I have participated in:
- Social Justice
- Buildings and Grounds
- Nominating Committee
- Pacific Central District leadership school
- Adult Religious Education
- Board of Trustees (including terms as
Moderator, Assistant Moderator, and Treasurer)
After completing service on the Board in 2001, I
have:
- Led the successful $80,000 fundraising effort
which allowed Up On Top to open
- Served as Up On Top’s first volunteer
grant writer
- Volunteered as web master for
Up On Top
- Volunteered as web master for the
Faithful Fools
- Co-chaired the 2004 Marriage Equality
celebration
- Facilitated for the Ministerial Model Task
Force
- Served breakfast for the homeless shelter
- Volunteered for the Holiday Faire
- Participated in religious education classes and
attended forums
I am also a member of the Hinckley Fund Board.
A key task of the Search Committee will be
working with the Congregation to discover the skills
we most want in a minister. I have a bias
toward having a strong Sunday worship program and
activities that naturally appeal to the whole
Congregation, yet I come to the Search Committee
without an agenda about the kind of new minister(s)
we should call.
I believe that the Search Committee's most
important role is to help the Congregation identify
what it needs in its ministers. With that goal
in mind, hard work, well understood procedures,
effective communications, and more hard work,
together we will find our next minister.
