Marriage Equality- It is Simple Justice
Sunday, September 26th, the First Unitarian
Universalist Society of San Francisco celebrated its
recognition of the right of all couples to marry.
The Congregation has been uniting same-sex couples for over 40 years.
At the 11 am service,
Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) President Rev.
William Sinkford discussed marriage equality as part
of his sermon on The Liberal Church in a Fundamentalist Age.
Participants
in the service included the
Lesbian Gay Chorus San
Francisco, the
Metropolitan Community Church Worship & Praise Choir and
Band,
and the Unitarian Universalist Choir. San
Francisco Assessor/Recorder Mabel Teng spoke,
and Seph and Denis Paul will lit the chalice.
The Congregation donated $1,290 in the plate
collection for the
UUA
President's Freedom to Marry Fund. Thank you!
Following the service, a Rally for Marriage Equality
co-sponsored by
Marriage Equality California (MECA) will
included a march through the neighborhood.

UU's on the Bus
Four Unitarian Universalists are participating in
MECA's cross-country
National Equality Express bus trip accross the
country, October 4 -11.
Rev. John Millspaugh of Mission Viejo and Rev. Helen
Carroll of San Luis Obispo are getting ready to "ride"
their talk from San Francisco to Washington DC.
These two straight ministers are joining Bev and
Jaqueline, a lesbian UU couple from Fresno, and a
busload of people from many different walks of life, on
the Marriage Equality Caravan that is traversing the
country.
You can follow their journey through 12 cities, from
San Francisco to DC, through Rev. John and Rev. Helen's
weblog, which will appear daily on the
Unitarian Universalist
Legislative Ministry California web site.
Want to Help?!
We need you to help with publicity,
sign making, marching, and attending the rally. We
are gathering for a work party Saturday at 1 pm at the
Stebbins Library of the First Unitarian Universalist
Church, 1187 Franklin Street at Geary.
