| Our Society runs by congregational polity, which is a way
of saying that the Membership makes the key decisions for the
organization. Some churches in this country have been governed
this way for three-hundred fifty years, so the idea is not new,
even if it is sounds revolutionary to people who come from a religion
with centralized decision making.
Some discussions of the concept on the web are at:
 |
The Unitarian
Universalist Association. (Although they miss the
point somewhat by declaring that member societies choose their
ministers by following the UUA settlement policies. Since each
Congregation runs its own organization, they may
follow the UUA guidelines, or they may not!) |
The Board of Trustees acts for the Membership between meetings of
the full congregation. The Membership is the ultimate authority
for all decisions.
